The merit for The One who helps the poor

It is important to give even what we love and not only what we have in surplus. The merits of generosity in Islam are of such magnitude that one thus grasps the importance of this quality.

First of all, we must know that when we perform a generous act, Allah The Most Merciful is witness to it. He says: {Whatever you spend of good, God knows it perfectly.} (Surah 2: verse 273).

Allah is witness to what we give and will therefore reward us for our good. We act solely to please Him and to hope for His reward.

On this subject He says: {And whatever you spend [in the cause of God], He will replace it for you.} (Surah 34: verse 39).

He also says: {And for whatever you spend of your wealth, you will be fully rewarded and will not be wronged.} (Surah 2: verse 272).

So let us give without counting because Allah will replace what we have given. And what better gift than that from Our Lord?

The reward from Our Creator represents the most important merit because He is The Most Generous and Most Merciful.

Furthermore, generosity is a means for us to attain Paradise. When we are generous, it pleases Allah and consequently, this act protects us from Hell.

In this sense, it is reported by ‘Adi Ibn Hâtem (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (‘alayhi salat wa salam) said: « Protect yourselves from the Fire (of Hell) even with a piece of date. »

Thus, our beloved Prophet (‘alayhi salat wa salam) encouraged us to be generous even if we give little. This is a blessing for us because by giving to others, we protect ourselves from Hell sobhanAllah!

According to Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (may the prayers of Allah and His peace be upon him) said: “He who cares for the widow and the poor is like the fighter in the way of Allah.”
