🌍 80 kilometers north of N'Djamena, in the heart of the Chadian Sahel, several hundred families live in villages of 300 to 500 inhabitants.
Their homes are huts. Their children are hungry. And every morning, women wake before dawn to walk — sometimes 7 to 10 kilometers ☀️ — to the nearest water point. Cloudy, often contaminated water is drawn from open wells that the rains make unsanitary.
💔 In Chad, unsafe water is the leading cause of child mortality. Each year, more than 19 000 children die from water-related diseases: cholera, typhoid, severe diarrhoea. Preventable deaths. According to the United Nations, less than 10 % of Chadian households had access to safe and continuous running water in 2024. More than 70 % of the population lives in rural areas — where infrastructure does not reach.
⚠️ Water scarcity does not only kill by thirst or disease. It also kills through the conflicts it generates. Last April, a dispute over a well caused 42 deaths and 10 injured. In November 2025, another conflict over a water point cost 33 lives. As the Chadian president himself said: "When water withdraws or is lacking, poverty advances by great strides, people and livestock suffer, conflicts multiply."
🕊️ A well is therefore much more than a source of water. It is peace. It is health. It is dignity.
🔨 What we want to do:
Fund the construction of 30 wells in these isolated villages — because the need is more than urgent. Entire families are waiting. Every day without water is one day too many.
