♿ Let's offer 200 wheelchairs to Rohingya refugees and the most disadvantaged people in Bangladesh
Imagine having to crawl through dust or mud, simply to leave your shelter. Waiting for a relative to be available to carry you so you can receive care.
Being poor is already so heavy to carry. Now imagine having to rely on someone for every movement.
For Rohingya refugees with disabilities, this dependency is added to exile and precarity. After fleeing violence and persecution, some remain on the ground for lack of means to buy a wheelchair. Others stay inside their shelter, isolated, while life goes on outside.
💔 They found refuge. But how can they regain their autonomy?
In the Cox’s Bazar camps, about one in eight people would be living with a disability, according to a 2021 study.
Behind this figure are children who would like to learn and play. Adults who wish to reunite with their loved ones. People for whom reaching a water point, a health center or a learning place can become an ordeal.
Steep, narrow and muddy paths complicate every movement. Even with a wheelchair, obstacles remain considerable. Without adapted equipment, dependency is even greater.
After losing so much, these people should at least be able to have the equipment they need. Lack of money should not condemn them to stay on the ground or locked inside their shelter.
🎯 Together, let's provide wheelchairs
The association Les P’tits Villages d’Afrique is launching this fundraiser to finance wheelchairs at €85 each.
We wish to assist Rohingya refugees with disabilities, but also impoverished Bangladeshis living in the poorest and most remote villages of the country, where distance and poverty make access to medical equipment particularly difficult.
A wheelchair does not remove all difficulties. But it can allow someone to get off the ground, ease movement and regain part of their autonomy. What remains an unaffordable purchase for a family can become possible thanks to our solidarity.
