🛑 What does the profession of a Sherpa involve? They accompany mountaineers and trekkers on their journeys and adventures. The Sherpa helps them reach their destination. Most of the time, a Sherpa is hired to lead and guide an alpine expedition during a dangerous ascent.

As we know, low-cost operators allow access to trails for “barely” a few dollars—but at what cost? A Sherpa can summit five, eight times, but sometimes problems occur... It comes from the body; they are not superhuman as some like to say.

✅ To support their level of activity, some Western and local agencies hire local guides, assistants and porters who are (very) poorly paid and are not very particular about their qualifications (or even their age).

It is also the clients’ fault if they turn a blind eye and behave stingily, according to some testimonies we heard during our various trips on site.

✅ Add to that the two years without work due to the pandemic—it’s a chaotic situation faced by these mountain workers. That’s why we are committed to providing a small financial aid this year to help them in their daily lives (and their families).

🙏 The association https://www.larando.org/ 👣 is launching an appeal for help for Sherpa (and Gurung) assistants and porters in Nepal🇳🇵 to help them (and their families) recover from this unprecedented crisis. Thank you in advance!

Some are unfortunately exploited and carry unimaginable loads...

As you can see, it’s a hard job but many have no choice to support their families.

Other porters you will see on the trails in Nepal.

▶️ Nepal: Going to school for a Nepalese person is very difficult in some villages.

-----------------------------------------------------

▶️ Our previous interventions in Nepal (2018 and 2019):

-----------------------------------------------------

▶️ October 2018: We distributed school supplies, backpacks,… to the children of Gonje as well as to school teachers.

▶️ April 2019: New fundraising and collection of school supplies for the children of the village of Gonje in Nepal.

Created in 2011, the association https://www.larando.org/ has intervened several times in Nepal🇳🇵 to help the schooling of children isolated in the mountains. The association La Rando has never hesitated to go beyond its main mission whenever this country, one of the poorest in the world, was struck by a disaster. That was the case during the 2015 earthquake which caused 8000 deaths and millions of inhabitants without shelter.
