Lycée Averroès: threatened with closure!   



Good results deserve a well-earned reward: in 2013, the lycée posted a 100% pass rate at the baccalauréat and was thus ranked the number 1 high school in France. It therefore made the entire Muslim community proud. The students' motivation, the teachers' dedication and the whole school team inspired in each of us excellence, progress and the pursuit of perfection to improve on a daily basis.

As always, Lycée Averroès — the leading private Muslim lycée in France — demonstrated its commitment to pupils' success by being ranked the top general education Lille lycée in 2022 and works for the education of future generations.

However, it is with deep indignation that we learned on 04 October 2022 that for the third consecutive year, the Regional Council of Hauts-de-France indicates it refuses to pay the annual grant to Lycée Averroès, which has been under contract with the state since 2008…

Since 2019, President Xavier Bertrand has refused to pay the amounts owed by the region and thus holds the substantial sum of around €1 million that is due to us. This refusal is financially asphyxiating our institution and is putting it in great difficulty. This critical situation unfortunately forces us toward a possible closure.

The Averroès association contested this new refusal by filing an appeal with the administrative court and will continue to claim what is owed to it.
