In Gaza, volunteers are doing extraordinary work in many places, making this incredible resilience of the population possible. Among them is Kifah Kudaih, who founded three years ago a center dedicated to disadvantaged children in the Khan Younes refugee camp, where 80,000 Palestinians live crowded together.
Thanks to a small team of volunteers, including psychologists and nurses, and some donations from abroad, they created the 'Heart Beat Youth Center' (the Youth Center whose Heart Beats) which welcomes children aged 7 to 15 and provides them with academic support as well as cultural activities. This center, accredited by the Gaza Ministry of Youth and Sports, also carries out health prevention for these young people regarding eyesight, exposure to toxic products (Gaza being a veritable minefield in this respect) and breast cancer screening. It also offers workshops on women's rights, as well as support for parents.
Disabled, hospitalized or orphaned children receive special attention, with distributions of school supplies, books and educational games.
The objective is to make all these children from the Khan Younes camp more capable, to give them self-confidence, to encourage them to take initiative and develop projects, despite the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupier.
The month of Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid (Eid al-Fitr),* *a time of year when children traditionally receive gifts. If, like us, you would like to give them presents, send us your donation, we will forward it to them without fail!
