#MeTooGay: we need you to bring Guillaume's voice before the court
Almost four years after their threat to file a defamation complaint against Guillaume, Maxime Cochard and Victor Laby have decided to sue for defamation the people suspected of having given voice to our friend and comrade. The case will be heard on Thursday 30 January 2025 at 13:30 at the Paris Judicial Court; to face this, we need you to continue Guillaume’s fight.
The serious allegations made by Guillaume against Mr. Cochard and V. Laby, and then his death, forced some of us to continue carrying his voice—for him but also for all the victims who testified during #MeTooGay. We do not forget that Guillaume played an important role. Carrying his voice will always be necessary.
Through his denunciation, and through the legal action he intended to take, Guillaume wanted to open the debate on enshrining consent in law. He believed he had been abused by an elected official of his party, fifteen years his senior, when he was only 18 and vulnerable.
From Paris to Mazan, from Guillaume to Gisèle Pélicot, the question of domination cannot be put aside when discussing consent.
However, for Guillaume, as for so many other victims of sexist and sexual violence, the testimony has been challenged, attacked, and denied up to the gag procedure represented by the defamation complaint. We note that the activists who gave this testimony are also targeted by this systemic practice and are being prosecuted.
The question this trial raises is simple: should Guillaume’s accusation have died with him, or are his close ones entitled to carry it and demand accountability from an elected official? Guillaume had decided to make his testimony a political act so that things would change. That is what these activists have strived to continue.
Unfortunately, defending oneself in court has a cost and we cannot ourselves fully cover the financial support the defendants need.
First, the fees of our lawyers, who are indeed activists but who must nevertheless be paid for their nearly three years of work on the file. Finally, the defendants may be ordered to pay damages if they are found guilty of defamation for having carried Guillaume's voice.
That is why we have no choice but to open a fundraiser to cover as many of these costs as possible. We need you—your support both moral, by sharing or by attending the hearing, and financial, according to your means.
For Guillaume and for all those who face sexist and sexual violence, we thank you for your solidarity with the defendants.
According to our statistics, a single share raises an average of 30 euros.
