This fundraiser aims to cover the surgery of 30 children awaiting an intervention at the Hôpital Pédiatrique of Kalembe-Lembe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). These children will be operated on by surgeons coming from Europe, the Americas and Africa who will carry out the operations but also the training of local health professionals in the field of pediatric surgery.
Ultimately, https://www.dignite-international.org/ wishes to set up a pediatric surgery school in the DRC; the objective is, of course, to operate on children who are in urgent need of care but above all to think about the future, that is the training of professionals who can take over the surgical care of Congolese children.
In Low-Income Countries (LICs), there is only 1 specialized surgeon for more than 3 million children. In the DRC, nearly half of the population is made up of children under 5 years old; local facilities severely lack human resources and financial means to provide pediatric surgical interventions and treat the children who need an operation. The rate of congenital malformation is estimated between 2% and 5% of children, pediatric cancers represent between 0.5% and 1% of the pediatric population, and 10 newborns per 1000 births are affected by malformations requiring surgical care — this is a major public health problem in the country.
Whatever the amount, everyone can contribute to this fundraiser so important for the health of children (mwana) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. If you cannot contribute financially, share this fundraiser as widely as possible. THANK YOU!
According to our statistics, a single share raises an average of 30 euros.
