Pilot industrial fishing project in Haiti!

Dear donors,

The situation in Haiti is dire!!!

#Insecurity is breaking records in Haiti... Particularly in Mariani, and it’s time to say a big Thank You to the Episcopal Church of Haiti for choosing not to consider our request to be able to launch this project in our community... Today, we would certainly not have to endure this dangerous situation!

Haiti... a ghost ship adrift amid insecurity!

Looking at what is happening in Mariani, we can say that the moral authorities of the Episcopal Church of Haiti were not there to help our young adults find another direction in their lives.

We had asked Food For The Poor for minimum support to be able to establish the pilot base for the industrial fishing project in the commune, but to our great astonishment, it is a matter of illicit trafficking of weapons of war and ammunition that the Episcopal Church offers the population... What sadness, what desolation in everyone’s life; because of the misguided choices of our moral leaders, we are all paying the price for their wrongdoings in the country!

Haiti... Without medicines, without masks, without the essentials to guarantee even the minimum safety for Haitians, following the waste of the country’s resources by those who squandered the PetroCaribe funds!

The health/humanitarian and security crisis we are experiencing in Haiti forces all of us to reorganize our lives and especially the country. This situation gives us the opportunity to put everything in place for good.

Today, the sovereign national conference calls on all of us; let us come together, not to destroy Haiti, but to bring proposals for solutions to our current problems, without demagogy!

Across Haiti, APDH remains mobilized against the corruption that produces the country’s poverty, through telephone/visio hotlines and the distribution of information, because we do not yet have the means and materials for risk reduction and spaces for mutual aid and information.

In this period of lockdown due to insecurity, social networks are an extremely precious source of information and sociability. Let’s use them! Support us with a precious donation.

Thank you very much for your generosity. It is by being united in solidarity that we will get through this complicated and difficult period in Haiti.

As you have surely seen or heard, Haiti is doing badly, and getting worse! But we will not give in! We will not let go!

Let us show them our determination to help our Haitian brothers! We will not let them die of hunger! Let us be united and in solidarity, let us stand together! They cannot imagine the power of our will!

Thanks to you, we will be able to finance the purchase of professional fishing vessels and equipment to help our poor fishermen earn a living from their profession! Therefore, we will always need your donations to finance the minimum necessary for human dignity!!

This project aims to offer the Republic of Haiti a means of developing sustainable fishing within the framework of an international solidarity program.

The population lives below the poverty line and national fish production is insufficient to meet the population’s nutritional needs... In this regard,

Project objectives

This project has two ambitions:
- Train fishermen in professional fishing and enable them to keep merchandise alive, therefore easier to trade, thereby increasing their income.
- Push back fishing zones by implementing fish aggregation devices and artificial reefs, which would relieve the coral shelf from overfishing and allow larger fish to be caught in greater quantities.

We have drawn up the list of equipment necessary to carry out this project.

The project can be estimated at:

520 500 000 Gdes. Or 5 338 461 €.

Some equipment can be purchased abroad (the customs problem remains to be solved). Part could be the subject of a collection of used equipment from international seafarers and shipped by container to Haiti.

The project is realistic, of a moderate budget, easy to implement as a test in one village and replicable to a group of villages quickly. This project is also coherent, as it responds to a logic of sustainable fishing development by encouraging fishermen to adopt responsible fishing practices.

The cost assessment mainly concerns the environmental and social measures selected based on their sensitivity and which must receive particular attention during the implementation of this project.

However, while Haiti may inspire images of a paradisiacal place, the other side of the story remains very difficult for locals who live there. You only have to walk to the end of a village to see the reality.

Our idea would be to help develop tourism through industrial fishing and use the proceeds to secure the main income of the countryside: fishing.

More clearly, the majority of foreign tourists came to Haiti for the scenery and other attractions, because, it must be said, it is a very beautiful place to learn about and taste some of the best foods on Earth.

Thus, the substance of the project consists of organizing a touring route offered to tourists passionate about fishing and seafood, but also to their families to live an unforgettable experience and meet the very warm Haitian fishermen.

Such a project did not exist before in Haiti.

This project revolves around the initial investment: an off-road vehicle that would make it possible to set up a touring route for the project, the organization and management of which will be ensured by the project committee and a local guide.

For this, we would need about 5,000 euros minimum to obtain a used off-road vehicle.

In addition, we have listed a number of equipment to purchase, namely:

- motorized canoes; fishing gear to equip the fishing vessels;

- large-capacity trawlers;

- sleeping bags;

- flashlights;

- the establishment of a coastal shipping site and means of communication;

- treated water;

- food;

- fuel;

- first aid equipment; etc...

- purchase of 10 professional vessels (at 250,000 euros/unit);

The profits from such a project have a clear purpose: to help locals invest in even more solid, better-equipped boats in order to minimize the risk that children never see their father return from the sea!

And finally, simply help them sleep peacefully in their beds....

They will be grateful to you... and will always give you their most beautiful smile..

For us, such an amount does not change a life, but on the ground, it can change so many things...

That is why we appeal to your solidarity, a small act of love and yet a big step for the improvement of many lives in Haiti.

In short, the Fishing Project, as designed, is ecologically viable, socially justified, in line with Haiti’s socio-economic and environmental development policies and strategies on the one hand and, on the other hand, in harmony with the World Bank’s safeguard policies.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HAITIAN BEINGS OF LIGHT WE ARE LOOKING FOR TO PARTICIPATE WITH US IN THIS PROJECT:

1 - Very early in their lives, they feel different. They often feel isolated from others, alone and misunderstood, and must find their own way in life.

2 - They have difficulty feeling comfortable in traditional jobs and/or organizational structures. Beings of light are naturally anti-authoritarian, which means they naturally resist decisions or values based solely on power or hierarchy. This character trait is present even if they appear shy. This is related to the very essence of their mission on earth.

3 - Beings of light are drawn to helping people, whether as therapists or teachers. They can be psychologists, healers, guides, volunteers, etc. Even if their profession is not directly linked to helping people, their intention to contribute to the greater well-being of humanity is clearly present.

4 - Their view of life is tinged with a spiritual sense of how all things are connected to one another. They consciously or unconsciously carry memories in non-earthly spheres of light, may sometimes feel nostalgic for these cosmic spheres and feel like strangers on Earth.

5 - They deeply honor and respect life, which often manifests as affection for animals and concern for the environment. The destruction of part of the animal or plant kingdom on Earth by human acts evokes deep feelings of loss and pain.

6 - They are kind, sensitive and empathetic. They may feel uncomfortable when confronted with aggressive behavior. They may be distracted, naive or deeply idealistic, and easily understand the feelings and moods (negative or positive) of those around them. They need moments of solitude to reconnect with themselves and Mother Earth, always in harmony with the universal consciousness of God.

7 - They have lived many lives on earth where they were deeply involved in spirituality. They were present in large numbers in ancient religious orders of their past, as nuns, hermits, mediums, shamans, priests, etc. They were the ones who built a bridge between the visible and the invisible, between the everyday context of earthly life and the extraterrestrial, linking spiritual planes and the kingdom of God in the universe.
For having played this role, you have often been rejected and persecuted. Many of you have been condemned for what you were.

That is why today we, the beings of light, do not fight with shields and swords, but with wisdom and love.

This project is therefore dedicated to all these Haitian beings of light!
