Sanctuary for Circus and Zoo Elephants in Europe

EHEES, Elephant Haven - European Elephant Sanctuary, provides a place to live for elephants from circuses and zoos across Europe.

Creating for them a peaceful and respectful retirement place is our mission. Such a project requires substantial funds and we are convinced that a large-scale mobilization will be the driving force behind this project.

The elephant is a being of great sensitivity. It inspires both wisdom and strength in humans, who are increasingly aware that their entertainment does not justify removing these animals from their natural rhythms and habitats.

To offer this retirement to the elephants, we are launching a chain of solidarity of donations via Cotiz'up. All payments are 100% secure.

Thank you for the elephants

Tony Verhulst

Tony Verhulst is co-founder of Elephant Haven. From childhood he has been passionate about animal life and, more particularly, animals dependent on humans.

Tony worked at Antwerp Zoo and Planckendael from 1993 to 2015. From 2001 he looked after the elephants full-time. He gained extensive experience with these pachyderms.

From his passion and knowledge came the idea of Elephant Haven. At Elephant Haven he is responsible for the elephants, their habitat and their care.

He obtained the Certificate of Competence for both species of elephants.

Sofie Goetghebeur

Sofie Goetghebeur is co-founder and treasurer of Elephant Haven.
From 1993 to 2015, Sofie worked at Antwerp Zoo as a keeper with birds, marine mammals, okapis, primates (small monkeys, gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees originating from laboratories) and also with elephants.

Sofie feels a great passion and deep respect for all animals, nature and humans. She carries the Elephant Haven project with great determination and much enthusiasm.

At Elephant Haven, she is also responsible for the care and habitat of the elephants and manages the Communications Department.
