It has been nearly thirty years that the residents of Bas Montreuil have been trying to build a place of worship to meet strong demand. Many Muslim citizens of Montreuil were delighted when, in 1994, a mosque opened its doors in a building at 9 rue Édouard Vaillant. It was rented and remained so until its closure in 2005. The sale could not take place, the owner having reclaimed her property.
With the support of the Montreuil municipality and the cooperation of the owner of the current hall, the community was able to regain a place of prayer since 2010. However, the rent amount is enormous—nearly €8,000 including charges!
For 14 years, the Bas Montreuil community has sought to escape this heavy financial burden in order to build a dignified mosque.
Since 2017, the members of the FMBM association have worked alongside the city of Montreuil to find a solution.
While waiting for the construction of the new mosque, the faithful of Bas Montreuil have converted an old factory into a prayer room. "There is overcrowding given the increasing attendance. [...] In winter, it is very cold; some of the faithful do not come because there is no heating"

FRANCE 3 REPORT ON THE PROJECT :
In September 2023, the municipal council voted by a large majority in favor of an emphyteutic lease so that Muslim citizens can have their own place of worship without being forced to practice their faith in permanent precarity after so many years.
July 4, 2024 will remain an important and memorable date: there was the signing of the promise for the emphyteutic lease in the presence of the Mayor of Montreuil Patrice Bessac, the notary, the general management, the president and members of the association.
Today, we are continuing this project that we started seven years ago in partnership with the city to submit the building permit.

La sous commission qui s'est tenu le 18 Juillet 2025 à la préfecture concernant la sécurité de la future mosquée a émis un avis favorable. Une première étape importante pour le permis de construire. Allah y barake.
Votre attention ! La prière de l Aid aura lieu au stade des Guilands si le temps le permet. Il se trouve juste après la mosquée au parc des Guilands. Pensez à votre tapis et vos ablutions. Bonne fête.
