Mr Mayor,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Avenue des Algues has an exceptional heritage of around fifty century-old trees (oaks, pines…).

The town hall approved the division of the land into four lots as well as the building permit for four single-family houses.

All the trees on these lots are protected wooded trees and one of the lots is a listed heritage site.

Yet authorizations have been granted to fell about twenty century-old trees in order to build single-family houses.

These trees are an important element for ecological regulation and quality of life. They are visible from the coastal path and felling them would seriously harm the beauty of our magnificent town.

Moreover, a family of red squirrels, a protected species, lives in these trees and can be seen daily by walkers.

This land is also a wonderful refuge for coastal birds.

We are not asking that no project or construction take place, but simply that it be more respectful of the environment.

Approving a division into 4 lots leads to houses being built on much smaller plots and therefore to changes to the environment through the felling of trees.

Let us not allow greed and financial concerns to prevail over nature. This is exactly what is happening today: the division into four lots has a purely financial objective, whereas if the land had been divided into 2 lots many trees could have been saved!

The constructions, and in particular the one that will be visible from the coastal path, will completely denature our environment with its multi-storey design that will impose itself by its height.

Let's fight to save the trees and call for a project that is more respectful of nature!

NO to the felling of protected trees!
