🆘❄️ Winter Emergency: Let's protect people experiencing homelessness
Every winter, thousands of people experiencing homelessness face freezing cold in Belgium.
Shelters are overwhelmed, places are insufficient, and many are forced to sleep outdoors, exposed to biting cold, rain and snow.
When temperatures drop, hypothermia becomes an immediate threat.
Every year, lives are lost on our streets amid general indifference.
❄️ Human Smile steps in where help is lacking
Our field teams are intensifying their winter actions to protect the most vulnerable people.
🧣 Our weekly outreach rounds
In addition to one-off actions, Human Smile organizes solidarity outreach rounds once a week.
Our teams go directly to meet people experiencing homelessness to offer them:
✔️ hot drinks
✔️ meals
✔️ warm blankets
✔️ listening, support and social guidance
These outreach rounds make it possible to quickly identify the people most exposed to the cold and to provide them with immediate, humane and essential assistance.
🏠 Isothermal Iglous: €120
Individual, insulating and easily transportable shelters, capable of maintaining up to a 15°C difference between the inside and the outside.
A vital solution when no place is available in a shelter.
Human support, beyond the emergency
Human Smile also provides social support, enabling some people to gradually resume a pathway to reintegration.
Thanks to this commitment, two people have been able to leave the streets permanently in three years.
