Bara, 5 months old, originally from and living in Constantine in Algeria, has AVB (atresia of the bile ducts), a congenital disease that is fatal if not treated in time.
He requires a living-donor liver transplant after the Kasai procedure failed, which was performed when he was two months old.
The surgical intervention is the initial treatment for AVB. This intervention is called the Kasai procedure and, whenever possible, should be performed before the age of two months.
At birth, persistent jaundice was noted with dark urine and pale stools.
Biliary atresia (AVB) is a liver disease of unknown cause that results in irreversible obstruction of the bile ducts (the channels that allow bile to flow from the liver to the intestine).
AVB affects one newborn in 20,000. It is not a hereditary disease. AVB is the most common cause of obstructive jaundice during the first months of a child's life.
Common symptoms are jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin), associated with dark urine (dark tea color), and pale stools (white, beige or pale yellow color).
His current treatment while awaiting transplant is vitamin therapy, ursolvan, bactrim, and a high-calorie, high-protein diet rich in medium-chain fatty acids such as Pepti Junior.
only way for his survival is a liver transplant without delay.
Bara must be taken care of abroad quickly, the procedure not being performed in Algeria.
His family does not have the funds to help their child, which is why they have requested the association's assistance.
The diseased liver is removed and replaced by a healthy liver. The healthy liver comes from a compatible family member. After the transplant, if we raise the funds, Bara will receive immunosuppressive treatment to allow the new liver to be accepted by his body.
We thank all the hearts who will respond to this call for help.
As a reminder, the association has helped finance care for more than a hundred families abroad, the majority being liver transplants and bone marrow transplants.
Do not underestimate a donation even of one euro, nor a share. Every gesture counts.
Here is the estimate from the Acibadem group located in Istanbul, Turkey. If we raise the funds, Baraa will be cared for by Professor Ramzi within the transplant department:
You can also make a donation via the association's bank account by adding the patient's name in the transfer reference:
In case of death the fundraiser will be given to another patient.
