On Wednesday, September 9, 2020, two weeks before his release,
the prison administration informed the family of Idir that he
had been found hanged in his cell in the disciplinary unit of
Lyon-Corbas prison.
He was beaten, deprived of water and electricity, forced to drink the
toilet water in the punishment cell (mitard). A prisoner who denounced
these facts was also beaten and transferred to silence him. Nevertheless,
information circulated, notably here:

Idir’s relatives are fighting to find out exactly
what happened in the mitard that day. A judicial procedure has been opened,
and a long-term mobilization is underway. Two silent marches took place
in front of the remand prison in Corbas and in Vénissieux, and more are
to come.
An association has been set up to fight against the far too many deaths in
prison:

as well as a petition for the abolition of disciplinary units,
where too many suspicious deaths occur
