Hello everyone,
I'd like to help Adama open her own nursery in Dakar through this fundraiser.
Who is Adama?
I met Adama in my first months in Dakar. It started with an invitation to eat a ceebujen and, very quickly, it became a habit.
Bingo, I was lucky: she's a saf loxo deh! Literally "tasty hand", the equivalent of the expression "cordon bleu".
For the meals that followed, we cooked together so she could pass on a bit of Senegalese cooking to me.
Adama is also the mother of four children. The youngest, Marieme, is quite a saï saï; you could translate that as "filoute". I arrived in Dakar when she was six months old; I've watched her grow and I'm very happy about it. I'm "tata Lulu" here too.
And we even learned to tchiper together with Marieme!!
Her project?
To open a nursery in her neighborhood.
Adama has worked for about ten years as an educator with children in Montessori centers in Dakar. Today, she'd simply like to start her own childcare activity.
She is currently taking training so she can also welcome children with autism spectrum disorders.
Where she needs help is covering the start-up costs related to renting the space that will host the nursery. She is looking for a space in Dakar with rent around 200,000 FCFA (about €300) per month.
The problem is that when renting you generally have to pay several months' rent upfront. In her case, she needs to raise about €1,000, i.e. three times the monthly rent, to be able to secure the space.
And putting that kind of money aside with local salaries isn't easy.
So there you go — I've never really done a 2.0 fundraiser, but I'm giving it a try. It would make me really happy if we could help her get started.
