Community Permaculture in Benin

General objective

This project was initiated to provide employment to women in rural areas, to contribute to behavior change and to ensure biodiversity.

Expected results:

The achievement of the general objective relies on several specific objectives envisaged by the promoter. These are:

Create employment within village communities through community permaculture;

Promote agroforestry and biodiversity by relying on species native to the agroecological zones while ensuring good autonomy of healthy and reproducible seeds;

Increase production by raising the yield of staple foodstuffs while preserving local species;

Improve soil fertility through crop rotation techniques and the use of green manures.

Provide reforestation sessions and education for behavior change through periodic trainings.

Carry out monthly and quarterly monitoring and capitalization of achievements.

Activities to be carried out:

Inform local and administrative authorities of each community about the existence of the project, followed by a request for a pilot plot from the town halls for community use. Furthermore, in case of administrative delays, the association commits to renting plots to carry out the activities.

Raise awareness and set up platforms of women farmers in each department of Benin about the benefits of permaculture.

Recruit a management technician for daily monitoring and crop planning.

Train the project trainers followed by preliminary demonstrations on the project sites.

Carry out procedures to secure the lands allocated to the project.

Irrigate the plots, construct small storage sheds, and purchase small materials and tools.

Invite authorities, farmers and partners for the official launch of activities

Monthly monitoring to assess the learning level of the women producers.

Quarterly sessions for capitalization and evaluation of achievements during the first phase of the project, which will last two (02) years. At the end, participants will be awarded certificates of participation.

Registration of new women farmers for the sustainability of actions in the communities and a final project review.

The budget must cover the purchase of materials and equipment, fuel, various payments during construction/earthworks, storage shed, irrigation, purchase of seeds, etc.

*Whatever the amount, anyone can contribute to this fund. No need to create an account or sign up, it's quick and payments are 100% secure*.

If you cannot contribute financially, share this fundraiser as widely as possible. THANK YOU!
