➡️The sacrifice (on the day of Eid) is obligatory for a well-off person who can do it after meeting their essential needs.

✔️It is to commemorate Allah’s intimate friend: Ibrahim (peace be upon him), in the scope of his obedience to the command of his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic.

✔️The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever is well-off and does not perform the sacrifice (on the day of Eid); then let him not come near our place of prayer.”

✔️Valid only with the sacrifice of a herd animal:
Camelids (camel…), bovines (cow/ox…), ovines (sheep…)

✔️“Sacrifice only an animal that has reached the minimum age unless that is difficult for you; in that case a older/adult animal among the ovines”

The minimum age is: for goats/sheep entering their second year (one full year), for cattle entering their third year (two full years) and for camelids five years.

✔️It is part of the sunnah to sacrifice a healthy animal.

The camel and the cow are divided among seven people, whether they are from the same family or not, related or not, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allowed the companions to share in the sacrifice of the camel or the cow.
Concerning ovines, the sharing is done only between him and the members of his household, and it is not permitted to share them with others.

➡️The sacrifice must be performed after the Eid prayer:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of sacrifice: “Whoever has sacrificed before the prayer, let him sacrifice again. And whoever has not done it, let him do it”

➡️The reward:

"There is no deed more beloved to Allah on the day of sacrifice than causing the blood (of the sacrificial animal) to flow.
The animal will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, its hair and its hooves.
Allah accepts the sacrifice even before the blood has flowed, so perform the sacrifice willingly."

➡️Whoever intends to sacrifice must not cut his hair or body hair, nor his nails, nor a part of his skin (the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah)

✔️As for the one who sacrifices on behalf of another person [by proxy], or on behalf of a charity, he is permitted to cut his hair or body hair, as well as his nails or skin, because he is not the actual sacrificer. This obligation then concerns the one who gave him the proxy to perform the sacrifice, or the author of the charitable work in question.
Similarly, the manager of the charitable work without being its author is not considered the one who performs the sacrifice; he is only the executor. Shaykh Ibn Baz

Sending the money for the sacrifice to another country

Question:

A Muslim resides in a non-Islamic country, and if he performs the ritual slaughter of the ʿId al-Adha, he may not find needy people to feed with it.

He therefore thinks that he should send its price to poor Muslims or that the animal could be sacrificed on their land; what is the ruling?

Answer:

If he sends it to be slaughtered there, there is no objection to that.

It is a good deed, via trustworthy people.

And if he sends its value, there is no harm.

But sacrificing it at his place, if it is easy for him to find people who will eat it among his companions and brothers, is better, by establishing the sunnah where he is among Islamic communities living together in foreign countries.

And he gives it to his fellow students and Muslims, and he gives it to non-Muslims; there is no harm in that if they are not hostile to Islam, for it is a voluntary charity.

And if he sends it to the poor in Africa, to the fighters if there are any, or he sends its value, there is no harm in that.

Question:

Is it sufficient to send a sum of money to buy an animal to be sacrificed for the ʿId al-Adha, and for it to be slaughtered for the poor and needy abroad?

Answer:

There is no harm whether he sacrifices it for his family or abroad.

But it is better for his family.

If he performs the ritual slaughter in his home, and eats from it, and gives generously around him, that is better, imitating the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), by performing the sacrifice in his home, eating from it and feeding others.

And if he wants to perform the ritual slaughter of another animal in a place where there are poor people in another country, then he will be rewarded for that; it is part of alms.

س: مسلم مقيم في بلد غير إسلامي، وإن ذبح الأضحية قد لا يجد محتاجًا يطعمه منها، فهو يرى أن يرسل ثمنها لفقراء المسلمين أو لتذبح بأرضهم، فما الحكم؟
ج: لا مانع في ذلك إن أرسلها تذبح هناك، هذا حسن بواسطة الثقات، وإن أرسل قيمتها فلا بأس، لكن كونه يذبحها عنده إذا تيسر من يأكلها من أصحابه وإخوانه أفضل، يقيم السنة في محله عند الجاليات الإسلامية، ويهدي لإخوانه الطلبة والمسلمين، ويهدي منها إلى الكفار، ما فيه بأس إذا كانوا غير محاربين للإسلام؛ لأنها صدقة تطوع، وإن أرسلها إلى الفقراء في أفريقيا، للمجاهدين إن وجدوا، أو أرسل قيمتها، لا بأس بذلك
س: هل يجزئ أن ندفع مبلغًا من المال لشراء أضحية وذبح ذلك في الخارج للفقراء والمساكين؟
ج: لا حرج سواء يذبحها لأهل بيته أو في الخارج، لكن لأهل بيته أفضل، إذا ضحى في بيته وأكل منها ووسع على من حوله كان أفضل تأسيًا بالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، كونه يذبح الضحية في بيته ويأكل ويطعم، وإذا أحب أن يذبح ضحايا أخرى في محل فقراء في بلد أخرى فله أجر ذلك، هذا من الصدقات
