The god of thunder embarks on a journey like no other: he searches for inner peace. His retirement from superheroing, however, is short-lived, as the galactic killer Gorr the God Butcher sets out to eradicate the gods. Facing the coming battle, Thor calls on King Valkyrie, Korg and his former girlfriend Jane Foster, who — to Thor’s great surprise — is able to wield the magical hammer Mjölnir. Together they set out on a cosmic adventure that will test both mortals and gods, to uncover the mysterious motive behind the God Butcher's revenge and stop him before it's too late.

While Thor delves deep into self-examination and seeks tranquility, his retirement is interrupted by an intergalactic killer named Gorr, the God Butcher, who has made it his mission to destroy all gods. To confront this threat, Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who, to his surprise, inexplicably wields the powerful hammer Mjolnir. Together they embark on a perilous cosmic adventure to understand Gorr's motives for revenge and stop him before it's too late.

Thor: Love and Thunder is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Thor. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is a direct sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and is the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Taika Waititi directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson; the principal cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.

In January 2018 Hemsworth and Waititi discussed plans for a follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok, which was officially announced in July 2019 with Hemsworth, Waititi, Thompson and Portman attached. Waititi said the film would adapt elements from Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor comics, in which Portman's character Jane Foster takes on Thor's powers. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson joined the project in February 2020. Waititi later stated the film would be romantic. Filming began in January 2021 in Sydney, Australia, and wrapped in early June.

Thor: Love and Thunder was released on July 7, 2022 in Thailand and July 8, 2022 in the United States, and is part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
