Hello,
My name is Benoît. I have been an employee on a vegetable-growing farm for 5 years and I will take it over in January 2018.
The farm:
It is located in the Nord region, 17 km south of Lille, in the commune of Ennevelin. “Le champ des Reinettes” covers 2.2 ha. We currently grow a range of 40 different vegetables and about ten fruits (mainly apples). Hens and bees complete the farm’s organic approach so we can offer eggs and honey to AMAP members. In the longer term my goal is also to test and succeed in producing certain vegetables in agroforestry within the orchard.
The farm is also a place of passage that has significant human and educational value. WWOOFers (volunteers) from around the world work alongside horticulture trainees and people in reintegration programs supervised by seasonal employees. We must not forget the AMAP members, principal beneficiaries of the harvests, who take part in some activities. The involvement of these people helps keep the farm alive while allowing them to discover the farming world. Beyond the richness of exchanges that can take place in all areas, it is their energy that feeds me and thus ensures the sustainability of the activity.
Why help:
My personal funds were barely enough to cover the purchase of equipment and stock present on the farm.
For now, visitors are welcomed in the sales tunnel. This is also where we cook and eat. In other words, when winter arrives, we keep our scarves and hats on to eat!!!
The money raised here will therefore be used to improve reception conditions by building a fitted 20 m² chalet. It will allow cooking and eating in warmth and dryness, and provide a place to sleep if necessary (I live 15 km from the farm). Naturally, the materials used will be as natural as possible (wood, hemp fiber, straw, clay, lime, etc.). The chalet costs about €2,200 and its fitting out (foundations, insulation, electricity…) €2,800.
Thank-yous:
Whatever your contribution,
- you will always be welcome on the farm as a simple visitor, to enjoy the comfort of the chalet or to taste apple juice and jam produced on the farm after sharing a good meal together!
- those who come to visit the farm will leave with a basket of good vegetables.
- my Facebook page (Le champ des Reinettes) will allow you to follow the life of the farm and see the result.
Please note that all payments are 100% secure.
Also take part by spreading and sharing, not only this fundraiser but also all ideas of alternative, simple, respectful ways of living that honor people, life and property.
