Have a lovely day, everyone.
I am Catholic, and I witnessed a scene that deeply moved me. I'm not the sort of person to start fundraisers; this is the first one and I leave it to providence to bring it to you, perhaps via the internet.
As I said, I am Catholic at heart, and a mother of three little children. Every Sunday, to do myself some good, I go to listen to the Carmelite sisters in a small church in Orange near my village, meet a few people and thus feel at peace.
Last Sunday, Sister Helen, the little Brazilian Carmelite, climbed onto the altar and, before the stunned community, she said "help!" A shy, worried "help." A "help" that nobody had expected to hear. There was a great silence and everyone felt saddened. So I told myself that something had to be done. Now!
Sister Helen said these few words: "we will no longer be able to pay our health insurance contributions, dear community, we will no longer be covered in these pandemic times! ... the funds for worship have been reduced to a minimum, we eat thanks to food donations, we can no longer hold on!"
It was a moment of great distress for me. Obviously no one is to blame, but I thought, with my modest means, that we had to find a solution. I was moved, we were moved, she was very moved too. I was also disappointed to learn that the diocese could no longer do anything for them. So what to do?
My Sisters are always joyful
Yes, these dear sisters are always joyful and even on the brink of the abyss, listening to them you would not think they were in crisis and yet... so I decided to ask for help for them as well, and when I say "them" I'm not just talking about the Carmelite sisters of Orange but about all those who suffer in silence in the Région Sud and who perhaps say nothing to their community.
God knows these sisters are committed and bring joy to our little ones. They even created a YouTube channel, our good digital sisters, on which they lead catechism and symphonies. They are dedicated to the children and to anyone who wishes. They are beautiful and dynamic.
A dancing video! To give them a chance!
So they created a video, quite simply. And because they believe that Joy could help them, they decided to dance in it. They are Brazilian and Italian and because they are courageous, they preferred to dance rather than remain in this dreadful situation.
If you are like me, if you believe with faith that the community can be wonderful, if you have two, three euros to give like that, with Joy, make a gesture! When we are thousands we will be able to help them, love them, reassure them so that they stop worrying.
I can already imagine Sister Helen looking at the sum collected, smiling at us and raising her arms saying "hallelujah". Nothing but for that, nothing but for that day, I thank you all for the time you will have taken to read these lines and maybe say why not.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart
Gemme
Let us take care of one another.
