In Algeria, a young boy fights every day against a serious disease that is slowly stealing his childhood: major thalassemia, a severe blood disorder 🩸.

His body produces almost no hemoglobin, that essential protein that carries oxygen through the body. As a result, he lives in a state of constant fatigue.

The slightest effort exhausts him, he becomes short of breath quickly, frequently suffers pain and cannot live a normal childhood. Attending school regularly or playing football — his favorite sport — has become almost impossible.

However, he can count on his little brother who supports him through this difficult ordeal and accompanies him to the hospital so that the time feels less long☺️.

To stay alive, he must receive very regular blood transfusions, sometimes several times a month. Each session lasts many hours, which he spends at the hospital, far from the carefreeness and play of children his age.

But these transfusions, while essential to his survival, also cause a dangerous buildup of iron in his body. This iron overload progressively damages his vital organs.

Today, the only solution to cure him is a bone marrow transplant. Without this procedure, he unfortunately has no hope of recovery. And the more time passes, the lower the chances of a successful transplant. If the operation is not carried out in time, his condition can become irreversible. This disease, silent but relentless, can put his life at risk.

With an income of about 250 euros per month, they cannot afford the costs related to treatments, medical travel, nor can they hope to save for such a major operation.

The situation is made even more difficult because bone marrow transplants are not performed in Algeria. To save their child, they must consider a procedure abroad, which represents a cost far beyond their means.😔
