Friends of artisans, hello!
Before getting to the why and how of this fundraiser, I owe you a brief rewind of my life over the past few years.
The adventure begins with a weariness of never truly feeling in my place professionally and the sensation of missing something important, something bigger.
In 2023, I decided to dare to be nobody for the world, to count for nothing in the eyes of the working world, and to stay unemployed for a few months in the hope of receiving an inspiration...! Convinced that being inwardly available would necessarily be fertile.
Silence not being as empty as one might think, at the end of the year I had a true revelation for knife forging, which was confirmed in January 2024 and which made my heart beat until the completion of training at the CFMTT (Center for Training in Trades and Transmission of Traditions) at the end of 2024.
In 2025, I jumped into the void, I launched myself, guided by this nascent passion and by the conviction that the authenticity of a manual craft carries an essential truth for our current world. I feel that I have a lot of light to share through this metal, sublimated by the action of fire combined with that of my hand. I create, I experiment, I fail, I mess up, I disappoint myself then I rejoice, I experience a transformation, I finally embody this new life and I grow through it.
It was only in the summer of 2025 that I finally confronted your first looks and began to reap the fruit of my daily work, happy to see that the seeds sown in the shadows for 2 years were beginning to sprout. The winter season followed, and proved me right to keep hope.
Since January 2026, I have been building each day the stock I planned to present to you this summer at various events. It amounted to about fifty knives, with a total exact value of 11 060 €. Imagine how many hours that represents...!
But then, on Friday, May 8, my wife and I had our home and the adjoining workshop burgled.
All my knives were stolen.
All of them, including the last two folding knives I had finished 1 hour before the incident; I barely had time to look at them before they were gone. It is an unpleasant feeling to give birth to an object with your hands, made from raw materials, and to have it stolen immediately afterward.
It is absolutely outrageous, unfair, and sad. If my knives are not recovered, I hope only that they will be sold and used by honest, whole, and good people.
Thank God, the two orders that were being worked on these last days were spared. By chance they were at the engraver’s for one and at a friend’s for the other!
In any case, the loss of my 3 cases of knives is colossal.
It is obviously financial, but it is also so much more because it represents hours of crafting animated by a heart that believes the world will be better with more beauty in everyday objects.
However, one can steal an artisan’s creations but not his know-how, and it is with this vision that I stand!
Everything that was stolen from me, I can remake, perhaps even better.
But the reality is that the summer season, which is the most important time of the year for us artisans, is likely to be very difficult to honor, even impossible, and I am forced to cancel several of the markets I intended to participate in.
Furthermore, it should be noted that my wife and I are about to become parents. She is currently on maternity leave for a year, and my presence by her side from mid-May to the end of June to welcome our son is non-negotiable.
I will only be able to return to the forge at the beginning of July and it will be impossible for me to rebuild the stock made in 6 months in just 2 weeks!
One of the most important points to highlight is that no insurance will compensate me for all that time.
I made a mistake when I took out insurance for my professional activity. It was at the very beginning of 2025 after returning from training. Being little equipped and still afraid of market value, I had insured my equipment against fire and water damage, but not against theft. At that time I had no value to protect; I was simply worried about potential fire damage. Unfortunately I never updated my contract since then. That has been done now, but it’s too late for this time.
That is why my partner thought of launching this fund and why I come to you today.
I do not wish to beg for your pity, but I realize that staying alone is not a solution. Daring to ask for help, although never easy, can sometimes be a beautiful way to bounce back.
Perhaps some of you feel called to contribute to this hard blow and would be happy to support my activity during this ordeal.
My wish is that you can feel as free as possible and be as fair with yourself as possible.
There is no small action, nor small donation, simply do what will leave you with the fewest regrets 🫶.
Even just a message of support is also a gift that warms my heart.
Thank you for reading, and thank you infinitely for your support in whatever form it takes. Long live craftsmanship.
