On February 15 the trial of the four UNEF Nanterre union activists, Ayoub, Sélim, Barth and Victor will take place. These four students are being prosecuted for defending the right to study!
In October 2019, as part of the "sans-facs" mobilization, UNEF's annual campaign to demand places for students rejected by Parcoursup, these activists went as a delegation to the CFVU (Commission for Teaching and University Life, one of the university's governing bodies). Two UNEF representatives on that body, Barth and Victor, had not been summoned by the Presidency, and it was for that reason, and in order to present the "sans-facs" cases, that the delegation went to the CFVU building. Once on site, the security guards, under the instructions of the president, Jean-François Balaudé, ejected us from the building. The Presidency and its security guards subsequently filed a complaint against these four students.
In reality, the Presidency refused to receive the UNEF representatives to begin a dialogue on creating new places for the "sans-facs", which it strongly opposed. This complaint, which led to a garde-à-vue (police custody) followed by a summons to trial for these four activists, was an attempt to put an end to the mobilization.
This complaint was filed in October, at the same time La Cocarde, a student organization associated with the RN that defends a meritocratic university, had shown up on campus in numbers and assaulted Sélim for racist reasons.
Balaudé is not acting for the first time: he initiated the trial of Victor and Roga (a university activist) and disciplinary proceedings against Victor and Mickael (a UNEF activist).
