Support for the occupation by unplaced students at Nanterre

**This fundraiser is the former fundraiser for the occupation by the unplaced students (sans-facs) of Nanterre. The occupation ended in mid-July, and UNEF obtained the registration of more than 70 students during the year. This fundraiser now serves to collect the broadest possible financial and political solidarity with the UNEF activists who are being repressed by the university administration!
Below is the last leaflet from UNEF Nanterre against trade-union repression: **

For having succeeded in registering more than 70 young people after 9 months of occupation and struggle...
The president of the University of Nanterre wants to ban UNEF!**
STOP THE PROSECUTIONS!

**For several months, the president of Université Paris-Nanterre, Mr. Gervais-Lambony, has been trying to ban UNEF Nanterre. He has summoned 9 UNEF student representatives to a disciplinary panel, including almost the entire leadership of UNEF Nanterre (its president, vice-president, general secretary and treasurer among others)! While awaiting the disciplinary panel's decision, he has denied these 9 activists access to the university.

Worse, in order to secure a favorable jurisdiction, the president requested that the activists not be judged by their own university but by the disciplinary section of another university: that of Marne la Vallée! This is a scandalous attempt to circumvent Nanterre’s elected and representative bodies because the administration fears the opinion of students and staff! It is afraid of the representativeness emerging from the ballot boxes in the last university elections at Nanterre!

With this procedure, Mr. Gervais-Lambony and his administration are trying to have the union and its activity at the University of Nanterre banned and erased! This is a level of repression rarely seen against a student trade-union organization.

The head of the faculty wants to silence UNEF because we firmly oppose selection at university, and because we carried out a 9-month occupation last year to enroll students who had been refused by the university. This fight against selection ultimately led to the registration of 75 students last year. Gervais-Lambony represses in order to impose his selective plans and the dismantling of student rights on Nanterre’s students.

To repress the struggle of the sans-facs and the union’s activity, the Presidency spent more than 500 000 € on private security guards who were deployed against the sans-facs and their supporters! These guards still prevent UNEF union members from freely accessing the buildings today, and control all access to the university! There are numerous videos of harassment of student representatives and intimidation by guards, with no reaction from the administration to stop these actions.

Opposing selection and defending the right to study is neither a crime, nor an offense, nor a disciplinary fault. The unplaced students bear the cost of a discriminatory selection that first excludes young people from working-class and immigrant backgrounds. We demand the end of all prosecutions against UNEF, that the access bans cease, and that negotiations be opened to find a resolution to this mobilization!**

These prosecutions lead to very significant legal costs. The widest possible financial and political solidarity must be expressed in support of the UNEF activists being repressed! UNEF calls for an end to the prosecutions and the access bans!**

Support for the occupation by the sans-facs of Nanterre!

Since Wednesday, October 27, several dozen unplaced students and their supporters have been occupying the presidency building of the University of Nanterre to demand their enrollment and to protest selection and the lack of places at the university. We are fighting for the enrollment of the 61 unplaced students who are still without assignment and, more broadly, for a university open to everyone!

Those who are paying today for budgetary austerity and the lack of places in higher education are the children of workers and immigrants, and international students. We do not accept this social selection and this society that prefers to sacrifice young people’s futures rather than share wealth and allow everyone to decide their future!

For the occupation to hold up in decent conditions, we need your financial support for groceries, hygiene products, blankets... Any contribution is welcome to allow us to continue our struggle; give what you can to help the sans-facs win!

Your support is precious to help us hold on!

Studying is a right, not a privilege!
