Which donations may qualify for a tax receipt?
A tax receipt may be issued when your donation is made to an organisation that can issue one and the required conditions are met. The recipient nonprofit checks its position and remains responsible for the receipt it issues.
The main factors considered
- The nonprofit you support must be able to issue tax receipts. In practice, its mission, non-profit nature, disinterested management and the fact that it does not serve a restricted group must all be satisfied.
- Your payment must be a genuine donation. A substantial direct or indirect benefit in return may prevent the issue of a receipt that qualifies for tax relief.
- Your identity, the date and the amount of your donation must be stated accurately on the document. Check your information before it is generated.
CotizUp makes tax receipt management easier, but does not determine the nonprofit's authorisation or your tax relief. The applicable rate and limits depend on your circumstances and current tax rules. If you are unsure, contact the recipient nonprofit.
